In the first eighteen months of life, puppies multiply their initial birth weight by an average of sixty times. This rapid increase in body weight puts extreme pressure on the puppy's skeletal system and joints, which can cause debilitating growth problems such as hip dysplasia and osteochondrosis, especially in large-breed dogs.
