How do Seresto Collars work?
The Seresto collar works by killing parasites before they can bite your pet, whether that be a dog or a cat. Despite looking like an ordinary collar, Seresto collars are made of a polymer matrix that allows the flow of imidacloprid and flumethrin onto a layer of your pet's skin and fur. This helps to build an invisible layer of protection to kill and repel fleas and ticks that may come into contact with your pet.
How to Fit the Seresto Collar for Dogs and Cats
Firstly, remove the collar from its packaging and ensure all plastic connectors inside the collar are removed. Next, loop the collar around your pet’s neck, as you would with an ordinary collar, and insert the end through the two loops and tighten it to the size of your pet. You should be able to fit two fingers between the collar and your pet’s skin. Cut off any excess, leaving approximately 2cm of collar loose beyond the second loop.
Seresto collars are available in multiple sizes for both cats and dogs as follows:
- Seresto Dog Collar for small dogs (under 8kg) which measures 38cm
- Seresto Dog Collar for large dogs (over 8kg) which measures 70cm in length
- Seresto Cat Collar (one size)
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Seresto Collars Really Work?
Seresto collars work by releasing their active ingredients at a slow and steady rate to help keep your pet safe from fleas and ticks for up to 8 months at a time. This has been proven to be very effective at removing and preventing these pests from harming your pet. Note, that they may take some time before the active ingredients fully work through their coat before it is fully effective.
Is Seresto Safe?
Many people have concerns about flea collar safety, which is understandable. Seresto has been designed to release the active ingredients that target fleas and ticks (flumethrin and imidacloprid) into the oils of your pet, which generally means they are very safe to use. If you are unsure if this is suitable for your pet, please speak with your vet.
Can You Bathe Your Pet While Wearing A Seresto Collar?
You can. One of the handy things about the Seresto collar line is that it is water-resistant, and does not need to be removed when your pet needs to be bathed. This is because the active ingredients are held within the collar matrix, a key part of its design, and therefore will not leech out into the bathwater.
