Fortekor®

Fortekor tablets are a veterinary medicine that can only be purchased with a valid vet's prescription. They are suitable for use in either cats or dogs but for different purposes. Fortekor is intended for treating congestive heart failure in dogs and chronic kidney disease in cats.

Fortekor flavoured tablets are palatable and generally well-accepted by pets and are available to buy in the following dosages.

Fortekor for Cats and Dogs:

• - Fortekor 2.5mg Tablets
• - Fortekor 5mg Tablets
• - Fortekor 20mg Tablets (dogs only)

• - Fortekor Plus 1.25mg/2.5mg Tablets

Fortekor tablets for dogs are used to treat congestive heart failure in dogs. This condition occurs when the heart does not pump blood around the body effectively. This can result in difficulty breathing and difficulty doing physical activities. 

This works by the active ingredient in Fortekor, Benazepril Hydrochloride, being converted to Benazeprilat in the body. As an enzyme inhibitor, Benazeprilat then lowers the production of substances in the body that narrow the blood vessels.

By reducing your dog's blood pressure, Fortekor allows their heart to work better. This supplies vital oxygen to their internal organs, which boosts their health and quality of life. It also protects the heart from further damage. 

Fortekor tablets are used to treat chronic kidney failure in cats. This condition is most common in mature and senior cats but can occur at any age. This condition affects the kidney's ability to remove waste from your cat's bloodstream, regulate essential minerals, conserve water and produce concentrated urine. 

Fortekor helps decrease your cat's blood pressure. This improves blood flow to the kidneys and also decreases protein loss in urine. Fortekor may also help improve your cat’s appetite.

As with any prescription medication, using Fortekor can sometimes cause side effects in your pet. However, Fortekor was generally well tolerated in pets, and any side effects that occurred were transient or rare.

When treating cats with chronic kidney disease, the following side effects were observed on rare occasions:

• - Vomiting or diarrhoea 
• - Lethargy 
• - Dehydration
