How to Save Money on Your Pet's Food

We all want the best for our pets, but with the cost of living rising, it’s becoming tricky to provide the very best without breaking the bank. That’s why we’ve put together our top tips for savings on your pet’s food, so you can get more for your money without compromising your pet’s health.

Tips on How to Save on Pet Food

Your pet’s diet lays the foundations for your pet’s overall well-being, but finding the best pet food at a good price can be challenging. Follow our tips below and see how much you could save on your pet’s food from now on.

Bulk Buy Pet Food

Did you know you can get more food for your money by buying in bulk? Although this may seem counterproductive at first, it can be far more cost-effective to buy more food than you need and store it at home.

For example, if a customer were to buy a 2.5kg bag of food for their dog for £19.49*, it would last for approximately two weeks. This would mean buying two bags a month, adding up to a monthly cost of £38.98.

However, if this customer were to buy a 14kg bag of the same food at £57.98*, it would last approximately 3 months. This not only saves them from buying multiple smaller bags, but it would work out cheaper overall with a monthly cost of approximately £19.32

Make sure to do your research before bulk-buying your pet’s food.

Not only does this work out as more cost-effective, but unopened pet food can stay fresh for up to 18 months, saving time on repeat ordering as well.  If you're bulk buying wet pet food, make sure any tins, cans or pouches are suitably stored and used before the use by date stated.

Remember, dry food does have a shelf life of 4-6 weeks once opened. To prolong the shelf life of dry food, you should store it in a suitable air-tight container. Throw away any dry food that doesn’t smell right or has softened in texture since being opened.

Pet Food Subscriptions

Another great way to save on your pet’s food is to look into a pet food subscription. Most pet food companies or retailers offer subscription services, like our Easy-Repeat service, that are fully customizable to fit around your life.

You can have your pet’s food delivered to your door when you need it, pick how often you have it delivered, and even pause your subscription if circumstances change.

You can also reap the following benefits of pet food subscriptions:

  • Convenience – Just set up your subscription with your pet’s food to be delivered when you need it, and it will automatically reorder for you. Save time by repeat ordering, and rest assured your pet’s food never runs out.

  • VarietyWith our EasyRepeat subscriptions, you have thousands of foods to choose from, and if your pet’s nutritional needs change, you can edit your subscription to include any other foods available.

  • Flexibility – You can pause or cancel your subscription at any point, no questions asked.

Pet Food Offers

Rather than paying more for your pet food, take advantage of offers and discounts offered by retailers on your favourite brands. We update our offers on pet food monthly, so keep an eye out for your pet food to ensure you’re getting it at the best price.

Cheap Pet Treats

We all love to treat ourselves and treat our pets, too. However, since treats should only make up 10% of your pet’s daily calories, by switching to cheaper pet treats, you can save a little more on your pet's expenses. Whether you’re looking for dog training treats or dental care chews, there are plenty of affordable and effective pet treats to tempt even the fussiest furry friends.

You can even make your own pet treats at home! Try filling a treat toy like a KONG® Classic with a mixture of natural yoghurt and peanut butter, pop it in the freezer, and in a few hours, you’ll have an enriching and long-lasting treat that your dog will love!

There’s no reason why you can’t provide the best for your pet on a budget. Try out a couple of these tips yourself and see how much you can save on your pet food this year. Or checkout our great range of pet foods below.
