Meloxidyl

Meloxidyl is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the treatment of chronic musculoskeletal disorders in dogs and cats. The active ingredient, Meloxicam, works by blocking the effects of COX enzymes which are used to produce chemicals called prostaglandins, which cause pain and inflammation at the site of an injury. 

By blocking these enzymes, Meloxidyl is able to relieve symptoms of pain and inflammation in dogs and cats to help improve mobility and quality of life. It is prescribed to treat both short and long-term pain and inflammation in pets from disorders such as: 

• → Injuries 
• → Surgery
• → Osteoarthritis 
•  

It is formulated as an oral suspension for easy administration in pets and is available for both cats and dogs

Meloxidyl is a fast-acting medication that gets to work within 1-2 hours. After this, you should begin to notice an improvement in your pet's symptoms. 

If your pet is being treated long-term with Meloxidyl, it may take up to 2 weeks for the full benefits to be observed. If you have seen no improvement in your pet's condition at this time, contact your veterinarian for further advice.

Meloxidyl Oral Suspension for Dogs is typically used for managing pain and inflammation associated with disorders such as osteoarthritis. It should be administered once a day with a small portion of your dog's typical meal to ensure that the whole dosage is ingested. 

The specific dosage of Meloxidyl for dogs will be determined by your veterinarian at the time of prescription, depending on their body weight.

Never administer this medicine to any other animals than those specified on the prescription. 

Meloxidyl Oral Suspension for Cats is used for the same purpose as it is for dogs in relieving pain and inflammation in musculoskeletal disorders. However, it is more commonly prescribed short-term for cats following surgery, although may still be prescribed long-term depending on your cat's condition. 

The dosage of Meloxidyl for cats will be decided by your vet at the time of prescription. 

Meloxidyl 0.5mg for cats is available to buy in the following sizes:

Meloxidyl is not suitable for use in pregnant or lactating dogs or cats. 

There is always a chance of side effects occurring when treating your pet with prescription medication. However, these side effects are rare and often transient and stop once treatment has ceased. 

The side effects of Meloxidyl are similar to those of other NSAIDs and may include: 

• → Loss of appetite
• → Diarrhoea
• → Vomiting 
• → Blood in stool
•
