How do I work out the dosage of Drontal Cat Wormer (XL)?
You should give one Drontal Cat XL tablet per 6kg of bodyweight. Tablets can be given with or without food, so there is no need to starve your cat before or after treatment.
Drontal Cat XL Wormer is for the routine control of worms in adult cats. So cats should be treated every 3 months and in the event of a heavy roundworm infestation, a repeat dose should be given after 14 days.
If your cat weighs less than 6kg you should use Drontal Cat worming tablets, which are intended for use in smaller cats.
How do I give Drontal for Cats XL Film-coated Tablets?
You can give the tablets to your cat by placing directly in the cat's mouth and encouraging them to swallow. If you this does not work or you are not confident about doing it, you can hide the medicine in the cat's food or mould a 'squishy' treat (such as EasyPill) around them to disguise them medicine.
How should I store Drontal for Cats XL Film-coated Tablets?
As with all medicines keep them safely out of reach and sight of children. Do not store above 25 degrees Centigrade. Only remove tablets from the foil strip when they are required for use.
Safely dispose of any unused tablets, or tablets opened in error but do not keep them for future use. Do not use Drontal Cat XL after the expiry date stated on the foil strip.
How does my cat become infected with worms?
Your cat can become infected with tapeworms by eating fleas, mice or other small rodents. If fleas are not controlled or if your cat often hunts it may become re-infected with worms.
Drontal Cat XL has been shown to be efficacious in the control of hookworms ancylostoma tubaeforme and A. braziliense, as well as the tapeworm Joyeuxiella pasqualei. None of these parasites occur naturally in the UK, but may occasionally be found in cats that have been overseas.
Praziquantel is also effective against Echinococcus multilocularis, which again does not occur in the UK, but is becoming more common in some European countries. So if your cat has been taken overseas, it is recommended that they are treated with wormer such as Drontal Cat XL before returning to the UK.

always use Drontal with my cat and he has never had worms he wont eat it voluntarily I have to hide the tablet in a chunk of meat
These worm tablets are quite big and I've often had trouble getting my cats to take them but I used easy pill cat putty and there wasn't any problems at all. My cats are healthy, appear worm free so feel this product is doing the job it was made for.
