Dry Cat Food

The primary difference between wet and dry cat food is the amount of water the food contains. Dry cat food contains significantly less water than wet cat food, and mostly consists of dry matter such as carbohydrates, fats and vitamins.

Wet food, because of its consistency, is far easier to eat and can make a big difference to your cat’s life if they have a specific health condition that means they would benefit from improved water intake. 

Dry food and dental chews can help to effectively remove plaque and calculus accumulation on teeth. This happens as the dry food scrapes against the teeth, acting almost like a toothbrush.

Several sources state that feeding a mix of dry and wet food to cats is better, so they can enjoy the nutritional benefits of both. 

However, if you can’t offer a mixed diet – don’t worry. A single type of food diet is suitable if it is complete and balanced. Choose what suits your budget and living situation the best and what your feline friend prefers to eat more.  

Dry cat food tends to stay fresh for longer than wet, but it can still go stale which won’t be great for your pet. Once you’ve opened a dry food bag, either place it in an air-tight container or squeeze out all the air in the bag before clipping it closed.

A purely dry food diet can mean that your little one isn’t hydrated enough day-to-day.

A mixed diet can help to ensure that your cat is getting a significant amount of water intake per day. It’s also important to leave bowls of water around your house, changed regularly, so they can drink throughout the day.
